MINISTRY OF SERVICE

The Honor to Serve

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.”
 ~ Rabindranath Tagore

Our ministry of service is one of four components at the heart of the spiritual communities in which I’ve served.  With Christ at the center, every activity includes inspiration, education, community, and service.  Inspiration – knowing and practicing the Presence; Education – learning and applying universal principles; Community – experiencing a deep sense of relationship through small group involvement; and Service – practicing our loving.

Service is one of the essential elements in our spiritual growth.  Just as we would not expect one to advance on the spiritual path without prayer or forgiveness or tithng, so we see that actively sharing our special talent in service is essential.  Sharing of our time and talents is an essential part of putting ourselves “in the flow.” As we do, we are blessed.

This month, Rev. Deborah will meet with several of our Team Leaders.  If you would like to serve, we have a number of openings.  Please call the office at 943-5757 or e-mail Jean at unityoffice@earthlink.net if you have an interest.

TWELVE POWERS

UNDERSTANDING—The Power for July
                          By Patricia Dikken

Thomas is the disciple that represents  UNDERSTANDING.  The location of UNDERSTANDING in the body is in the front of the brain.  The color of UNDERSTANDING is gold.   My UNDERSTANDING of Truth deepens  and directs my life.
You may recall the story of Thomas where he needed physical evidence of Jesus’ resurrection by seeing and feeling the wounds on Jesus’ body.  So Jesus allowed him to touch his wounds therefore proving to Thomas that he truly was the resurrected Christ.
Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them.  The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said,  “Peace be with you.”  Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing.”  Thomas answered him,  “My Lord and my  God!”  Jesus said to him,  “Have you believed because you have seen me?  Blessed are those who have not seen me and yet believe.”  (John  20:26-29)
UNDERSTANDING and WILL should function in unison as each has its center of activity in the front of the brain, in the forehead.  Thomas represents reason and intellectual perception. (Metaphysical Bible Dictionary)   Seeking evidence is the best way to gain UNDERSTANDING of any subject or situation you have doubt about.
Other words  associated with UNDERSTANDING are sharpness, intelligence, comprehension, judgment, thought, belief and opinion.( Webster’s Thesaurus)  Webster’s Dictionary says that UNDERSTANDING is the power to think and learn.  UNDERSTANDING is a specific interpretation.  UNDERSTANDING is coming to a mutual agreement.

Affirmation:   Don’t be a “Doubting Thomas”  seek  UNDERSTANDING through evidence and belief.
