    The 30-Day Challenge and Fundraiser & Thanks-a-Brunch

You are invited to join the Unity Community for an empowering start to your 2022.

The new year is a popular time to initiate ideas for changing – lose weight, exercise, save money, be nicer. The Unity 30 Day Challenge is an opportunity to bring daily awareness into your life. It is a path to rise above fear and worry and to create new ways of being.

Here’s the way it will work:

Identify the habit or behavior that you want to modify, release, or add. Maybe you want to reduce added sugar or want to add exercise. Write it down with as much detail to help you get clarity.

Make a commitment to stay with the program through from January 1st to January 31st. Find your special jar. Decide how much money you want to put into the jar each day. Perhaps you decide on a $1.00. In the morning you put in your dollar and call to mind your desired results. Or maybe you put the money in the jar at night and reflect on how it went. Each week there will be an e-blast with power statements and ideas for Acts of Kindness.

Consciousness is all about bringing recognition into the now. The daily checking in with your stated desires is powerful. All through the month you will see your money growing. It is a reflection of the consciousness you are also growing.

The challenge will culminate on Sunday January 30th with an after service event "Thanks-A-Brunch!" at the church. You can drop off your financial contributions and stay for brunch or take it to go. Your giving is above your regular giving and meant to be an expression of your growth and gratitude for what has transpired for your over the previous 30 days.

The goal for the 30-Day 2021 Challenge is $5,000.00, which contributes to the anticipated annual fundraising. Here’s to your best year yet!

New Thought Bible Study Book Group | Saturdays, 9:30 - 10:45am (via Zoom)

For the curious, the doubtful and the wishful thinkers

Many people believe the best way to study the Bible is to read the Bible – but maybe it’s not. Unity teaches that the Bible is the story of the evolution of consciousness; the changing awareness of humanity’s relationship with God and one another. The Fillmore’s (Unity’s founders) were more interested in the meaning behind the stories than whether the stories of the Bible were factual or not. Current biblical and archaeological scholarship offers us information that just wasn’t available a hundred years ago – or even fifty years ago.

Join Reverend Terry on a new adventure in 2022 with John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan. This study will take place over the course of the year and is broken up into sections as follows. Each meeting time will be on Saturdays from 9:30-10:45am:

    • January 8 – February 28: Reclaiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World; Spong
    • March 7 – April 11: The Last Week; Borg & Crossan
    • May 2 – May 23: Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time; Borg
    • May 39 – July 11: Sins of Scripture; Spong
    • July 18 – August 29: Biblical Literalism: A Gentile Heresy; Spong
    • September 12 – October 17: The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic; Spong
    • October 24 – November 21: Unbelievable; Spong
    • November 28 – December 19: The First Christmas; Borg

    January 15, 22, 29 from 10:30am-2:30pm | Audrey Pitchford, LUT

    Fee to attend: $75*

If you are taking this Unity Prayer class for SEE credit, you will also need to register with UWSI as a student (if you haven't yet done so), pay UWSI directly for your credits ($45), and read the three required books in preparation for a written assignment.

    Course Description

Affirmative meditative prayer is at the heart of the Unity spiritual path. The Unity way of prayer is ultimately aimed at experience of the Divine and Realization of the practitioner’s Divine Potential. Along the way there are practical benefits, including guidance, healing and abundance. In this course, students are introduced to Unity’s Five Step Prayer Process and supported in developing their daily prayer practice.

    Course Learning Objectives

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

    • Describe and demonstrate the application of the principles of Truth present in the five-step prayer process.
    • Identify their current prayer method and compare and contrast with the Unity method of affirmativeprayer.
    • Create a prayer practice that the student can maintain.

    • Hasbrouck, Hypatia. Handbook of Positive Prayer. Unity Village: Unity, 1984.
    • Martella-Whitsett, Linda. How to Pray Without Talking to God

    Facilitated by Audrey Pitchford, LUT

We invite you to join us for the upcoming prayer training class on February 12th from 11:30a-6:00pm. Unity affirms the power of prayer and meditation to help people experience a stronger connection with God, and to enhance spiritual understanding. We especially focus on affirmative prayer, the highest form of creative thought, which includes releasing counterproductive, negative thoughts, and holding in mind statements of spiritual truth. Through meditation, we experience the presence of God. Prayer and meditation heighten our awareness and thereby transform our lives.
